Helios consoles were also popular in the private studios of their era, and the Type 69 was considered the model to aspire to. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Roxy Music and Queen all made records on Helios desks at one time or another. The Helios 69 EQ is based on the passive circuitry used in Helios consoles, built between 19 and linked to innumerable classic British rock hits, as well as to international artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley. The company have also made the power of the UAD2 card available in a format that laptop users can benefit from, with the launch of the UAD2 Solo Laptop (see box elsewhere in this article), so this seems a good time to round up all the new plug‑ins, as well as one or two stragglers from previous updates that we haven't had space to cover before now.

Wondering if anyone here has any similar experience with this issue and if there was any solution they found? For reference I am running an Apollo X6 on a 16” MacBook Pro.Universal Audio have given their UAD2 DSP platform extra appeal with yet more accurate recreations of classic studio hardware, and a new version of the card that works with laptop computers.Ī raft of new plug‑ins has been added to the range available for Universal Audio's UAD platform with the introduction of version 5.4 software (which also reduces latency for Pro Tools users). Also bypassing the UAD plug-in off and on after a buffer size change fixes the issue, but once again time consuming if working on a large project with 50+ plugins.

The current solution I’ve found is to set the buffer size to what I want it to be and then restart Live so that it loads the project up at that buffer size, but this is time consuming. So essentially a cat and mouse game of latency.

So for example, if I launch and load a project at a 512 buffer size, the UAD plugins will load up with 512 samples latency, then when I change Ableton buffer size to 1024 the UAD plugins remain at 512, but then after changing the Ableton buffer size back to 512 the UAD plugins will then update to 1024. What’s even more bizarre is that latency of the UAD plugins seem to be one step behind the buffer size selected within Ableton. Upon closer inspection, the issue is that the latency of the UAD plugins (at the bottom bar of Ableton when hovering on the plug-in) does not update when changing the buffer size, and thus the plug-in delay compensation in Ableton is not compensating by the right amount. When I load up a project at any buffer size everything plays back fine, but as soon as I increase or decrease the buffer size, all my tracks containing UAD plugins get pushed out of time by varying degrees, depending on how many UAD plugins are on a particular track. It does not occur in Logic and doesn’t occur in Ableton with native plugins.

I’ve encountered an issue when using UAD plugins inside Ableton Live and wanted to see if anyone has the same issue.
